How can the mandatory provision of an e-mail address, and other information
not apparently required for the provision of a service be made to comply
with Principle 3?
I ask as a result of the mandatory requirement to complete registration
details in order to access a service detailed in a letter from an
organisation (unique online Reference and PIN number by which to identify
myself and my enquiry with them were provided). Having entered that online
personal reference and PIN information the next page to open was:-
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/renewal;jsessionid=Z12Y4NIFNBBN4CRAZRXUNZ
QKEDGHAQ2K?pageId=ren_details&catId=600008&_requestid=581738
Certainly from my perspective the material being requested on the
registration page was totally irrelevant to that organisation and the
purpose I was in contact with them, their privacy policy refered me to their
terms and conditions, their terms and conditions made no mention of
requiring that info, there was no contact/enquiry e-mail link to facilitate
clarification and I could not move forwards without providing the data
requested.
