I forward this e-mail received via Esd-toolkit, as I thought readers of
this list might want the chance to respond - I hope I'm not repeating a
previous message, apologies if this is the case.
Heléna Ashton
DP Officer
Bristol City Council.
Dear Colleague,
Just as local government is coming to terms with the fact that it will need
to implement Freedom of Information legislation - the EU has indicated that
it will shortly prescribe new legislation of the re-use and commercial
exploitation of public sector documents. This, combined with the need to
protect personal data means that knowing what information your authority
holds and what restrictions and rights of access to it there are, is
becoming a full time job.
The IDeA has been asked to feedback to central government a view on how the
new Directive will impact upon local authorities.
Is the corporate management of information in your authority thoroughly
sorted?
Are you sorting it out anyway to meet your other e-government objectives?
Will the new directive place a significant new burden and if so which of the
options for implementation will cause you the least grief?
Please use the following link to an article giving a little background -
http://www.esd-toolkit.org/newforums/download.php?id=256
We are looking for feedback to inform central government of local
authorities' views - and to see what needs to be done to support the
implementation of the Directive in local government.
We welcome your comments on this subject and a consultation forum has been
set up on esd-toolkit -
http://www.esd-toolkit.org/newforums/viewforum.php?f=28
Your views are important and we look forward to hearing from you - all
comments will be fed back into the consultation.
Please note that the closing date for consultation is 28 November
Regards
the esd-toolkit team
