If a job evaluation exercise is being done properly, then it does not relate
to the individual currently holding a post.  It is about ranking the post
relative to other posts in the organisation, and the individual's
performance in the post is totally irrelevant.  Two individuals doing the
same job would receive the same ranking, regardless of how well or badly
they were performing.  The exercise can in theory be conducted by reference
to well-written job descriptions, without involving the individual
post-holder at all, although it is normal to check back with post-holders
and their line managers that the job description is an accurate reflection
of the work involved in the post.

It is normal for the scores to be seen only by the individual or panel
carrying out the exercise.  If an individual is dissatisfied with the grade
their post is given, there is normally an appeal process - or there may be
collective dissatisfaction with the whole exercise.  But it is generally
felt to lead to greater objectivity if the scores of individual posts are
never disclosed, just the eventual rankings.  In most cases the factors
being measured, and the points available under each factor are made
available, in order to explain the process more fully.

It would seem anomalous if an individual who was the only person to hold
their post could see the points score for the post, but one who held a post
in parallel with one or more colleagues could not.

Please tell me the scores are not personal data, or I'll be in trouble with
my partner who spends most of her time advising on and carrying out job
evaluations.

Can an organisation withhold grading scores to individuals further to a job
evaluation exercise?

The argument to withhold scores from people who wish to appeal their grading
is that the exercise was done on positions not people. However, if the
scores and grading, along with any comments are held on a document with a
post name at the top of the page, and there is only one such post within the
organisation, would that not then be identifiable data relating to that
post-holder and they could have access?
