Good Morning
We have an issue here which my HR contact is twisting around and confusing
me !!!
There is a Government initiative to encourage people to use computers at
home - apparently there is a benefit to a company who offer such a service
to employees - I don't know what the benefit is but I expect it has
something to do with money !! - anyway - my company want to pass on
employees home address details to a PC supplier in order to offer computers
at discounted rates over a 3 year period with no interest.
My immediate stance was that the information wouldn't be used for the
purpose it was given to the company - i.e HR records - my HR colleague said
that the company were passing on a benefit to the employees, there is no
gain for the company and he sees it as a legitimate business reason and
therefore the company is not in breach.
Obviously I have looked at the legal agreement with the company and
stressed that they would be Data Processors on our behalf, and further use
or disclosure of the data would definitely be prohibited but apart from
that is the company justified to hand over the info ?? I still don't think
so --- but perhaps I'm not being open minded enough !
Apparently a number of other large companies have been involved with the
computer company and I am trying to get the contact names and numbers so I
can talk to them - but I thought I'd ask my DP colleagues from the
list !!! and it's a nice one for a Friday !!!
Regards
Teresa
