I would think that it is not the same as marketing - Direct
Marketing defined in the Act as involving advertising or marketing
material.
However it may not be used for specified purposes, but processing
of this nature may be allowed under Schedule 2 (6-1) as necessary
for the purposes of legitimate interests without prejudice to rights or
freedoms of the individuals. As you are simply writing to them I
think justification under schedule 2 is all that's required.
