I'm currently undertaking a review of our Personnel Division and I'm using
the Retention Guidelines for Local Authorities (recently produced by the
Records Management Society) as a guide.
It suggests the following for records of disciplinary and grievance
investigations, where proved:
Oral Warning - 6 months
Written Warning - 1 year
Final Warning - 18 months
Warnings involving children - Permanent
The above warnings to be removed and destroyed after their time is spent.
Where investigations show allegations are unfounded, the guide suggests
records are destroyed as soon as the procedure is over or after the relevant
appeal.
The full guide is available from the records management website
www.rms-gb.org.uk
Hope that helps

Subject: Retention of Personnel files
Can anyone else working in the public sector offer any
advice/commments on how long disciplinary records are
kept on personnel files in their organisations? I would be
most interested to compare.
Many thanks
