The Disability Focus Group has been brought together
by the DATE and SNAPE Projects, housed in the
Department of Humanities and Applied Social Studies.
The DFG is a university-wide initiative, encompassing
all academic and service areas at MMU. It was set up
in April 2002 to raise awareness of disability issues
and to enable the dissemination of good practice in the
University and also to promote electronic discussion of
these issues across the University. Information is
enclosed about 4 x separate training events, which have
been organised to support some of the areas of need
identified by the Disability Focus Group in consequence
of the last meeting on 11.04.02. The 4 training sessions
cover Physical Disabilities, Learning Difficulties/Disabilities,
Epilepsy and Mental Health Issues. The first session on Physical
Impairments on 19.11.02 at Didsbury will be supported by Jason
Jones, a student on the BA (Hons) Politics degree at MMU.
Please could you bring these events to the attention of
your colleagues to encourage their attendance. Each
session has been scheduled at 15.30hrs in an attempt
to maximise attendance. It is hoped that you will be able
to attend as these sessions will provide opportunity to
continue an iterative dialogue around disability matters.
