Hi again,
I now had 3 comments relating to the above statement. Let me qualify it,
and I will copy a reply I already send to one of the comments I received.
-----------------------
First, on a personal level, I am not involved with FOI and as it happens
I am not a DPO either. I am still looking into DP issues - for as long as
I do - because of personal interest.
Second, my comments come from my experience in other groups (web
authoring/technology related) where too many have been created for niche
reasons and are dead. It is better to have fewer "wider" groups and those
who are not interested in a thread should learn to ignore it.
The success of a group depends on sufficiently large participation and
willingness to contribute to a discussion even if the comment is right or
wrong. It is the participation that makes the discussion. It is also
probably an incorrect comment that highlights issues or misconceptions as
the debate then goes to try and explain "why" something is the way it is.
Case in point, recent discussion on transexuals who will now be able to
change their birth certificate.
Maybe the FOI list is nicely busy maybe not. If it is doing well then it
can stay as is, if it is dead then the answer is obvious. This list
should be expanded to discuss FOI as in any case most people here will be
either actively involved in FOI or have at least a passive interest.
Just trying to cause more work for Sally. ;-)
Charles
