I suggest that you point your HR dept. in the direction of part one (recruitment) of the Commissioners code of practice.

Subject: NINO
I amin dispute with my HR section. They intend to request national
insurance numbers on employment application forms. I have stated that we
can not ask for NI on application forms for the simple reason we would then
be collecting excessive information. Everyone who "applied" would be
providing this data. We can only ask it of successful applicants.
Can I have any views please to help me resolve this problem.
Thanks.
Moira
