I know what Stuart is getting at: "I'm afraid I can't agree with group
members who have replied indicating that they tell SAR applicants when they
have withheld data. If you are legally entitled to withhold data then
withhold it - telling the applicant that you have done reveals that this
data exists."
I still think that we should own up in most cases, acting in the spirit even
if it goes beyond the letter of the law. I would consider on a case-by-case
basis - I agree we might not want Chummy to know we have anything, much less
what it is!
But I've withheld stuff as outlined before without receiving complaints,
especially on occasions when the DS knows about the existence of the
documents anyway.
