The OU is setting up a Centre for Assistive Technology and Enabling Research
(CATER) at Milton Keynes.
CATER will have three main roles:
* to provide a national needs assessment, training and technical
support service (in partnership with NFAC and other national bodies) for the
OU's 7500 disabled students and for its staff
* to promote and help deliver an inclusive OU curriculum based on
accessible ICT learning resources
* to enhance and develop new generic core services (e.g. digital audio
versions of print) for mainstream provision to students
CATER is being funded for an initial three-year period through a combination
of additional HEFCE money and OU strategic funds
We now need someone to set up and manage a new OU Access Centre which will
be part of CATER. Details of this vacancy can be found at
http://www.open.ac.uk/employment/vacancies under academic related posts.
Salary £26,216 - £30,967 (under review) and available initially for three
years though with good prospects of being made permanent. The closing date
is 25 June. The OU Access Centre Manager will report to the Head of CATER.
Other new CATER posts in the pipeline include a Development Manager
(Curriculum Access), 4 Development Officers - to support the Access Centre
and curriculum development - and an administrator. I would be very happy to
talk to anyone interested in finding out more about the Access Centre
Manager job and CATER in general.
