Apologies for cross-posting.
BCAB, in association with Blind in Business, is planning a short course
introducing Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 to visually impaired computer users in
May 2001. Over 3 days, the course will teach the fundamentals of
presentation design and creation using PowerPoint.
Course participants are likely to be visually impaired people who want to
use presentation tools effectively. They may currently or plan to give
presentations in a learning or work environment.
Participants will learn how to use appropriate access technology to:
- navigate within the PowerPoint environment;
- use built-in features to produce effective, well-designed presentations;
- locate and manipulate slide information;
- insert and manipulate text, pictures and multimedia objects;
- design, preview and run slide presentations;
- produce handouts.
Additionally, participants will give a short presentation and receive
feedback from the group. We will also examine setting up and using
different presentation equipment in different environments.
In order to get the most out of the course, participants will need:
- a good working knowledge of the Windows environment and Microsoft Office
applications,
- familiarity with screen access software,
- ideas and materials for the subject and content of a presentation.
There will be up to 12 places. However, in order to run the course
effectively, we need a minimum of 6 participants. If you would like to
express an interest in attending the course, please contact BCAB's
administrative assistant by Wednesday 14th February 2001 so that we can
gauge numbers. Contact may be made by E-mail at [log in to unmask] or
telephone 0845-660 6234 for the price of a local call within the UK.
Further details will be available shortly after that date.
It is likely that we will be able to provide training using only one
speech-based screen reader product and one screen magnification product. If
required we will also run a half-day course to cross-train participants on
the supported screen access technology.
Training costs for the course are being supported by Blind in Business.
Participants will be expected to pay for their accommodation and other
incidental costs. Group accommodation will be arranged if the course is
confirmed.
