Ooh Claire, what an offer...however I have to say that I have recently tried
to 'pull together' DET's and look at ratifying training to no avail, (this
was unfunded and in 'my own time' of which I have masses -not) except that
shortly after I tried the DRC put out a call for tender for DET's, don't
know what happened about that.
I feel very strongly that there should be a register of qualified Disability
Equality Trainers and feel equally strongly that the training should be
delivered by disabled people. The National Centre for Independent living
apparently hold s a register, as a DET myself (trained by GLAD) I'm not even
sure if I am on it!
A starting point for some on this list might well be 'What is Disability
Equality Training?' also 'What is the Social Model of Disability?' I know I
have had to explain both to colleagues in HE very recently.
Please count me in.

Go on. Let's have a workshop on "The curriculum, role and effectiveness
of Disability Equality training for University staff." We are happy to
host it at Bristol, make all necessary arrangements and provide a
record of the proceedings afterwards. I have a particular interest in
training Disability Equality trainers and so would see such a workshop
as contributing to this.
Could interested participants please e-mail me (on or off list with
suggestions as to:
Date, day of week etc (not before October 2001)
Start and finish time
Issues you would like to discuss
Offers of contributions (presentations/workshops)
and the outcomes that you would like to see from such a seminar: I, for
one, would see this as perhaps the start of collaboration to develop a
core curriculum...perhaps a development that we could seek funding for?
Once I have a feel for the amount of interest and the issues that we
see as important, I will co-ordinate a programme and send out
further details and booking forms.
