Following up Chris's remarks, particularly in respect to deaf
students and the role of dis-forum. I was not aware that we had
changed the designated purpose of dis-forum and I admit its
primary function is a forum for disability support staff. Some
students do belong and are welcome but I wouldn't expect the
dialogue to change into what happens on the dyslexia list where
students and other adult dyslexics account for a large part of the
traffic- rightly so in that case.
deaflink was created with students primarily in mind but very few
ever joined. In fact the list is remarkably quiet and I'm sure we
would all welcome seeing it become busier. Since staff seem to
prefer the wider list, dis-forum, to discuss their issues why not
encourage deaf students to join deaflink. If the idea caught on it
would be easy for one of us to set up a list for a wider group.
