Thanks for the replies on this. The problem goes deeper than might be assumed
and I would not expect a non-dypraxic dancer to understand that, although the
student can distinguish left from right and follow instruction, when she is
facing 'front' she is OK but when is moving on a diagonal across the stage
"her brain is throwing her left, when she knows she should go right" is the
way she puts it.
Think of a student who has left / right confusion with letters, writing 'b'
for 'd' etc (which she does) She knows what a 'b' or 'd' is and can write the
letters but still writes words like 'stuby' for 'study'
We've all seen a practical illustration of her difficulty in many car parks
as people try to reverse into a space!
