There is a mention of staff associations/unions using the organisations
e-mail within my organisations e-mail policy, but not a separate policy.
Basically that particular item states that the normal confidentiality
practices will apply to that particular type of e-mail. Considering the
confidentiality of union representatives conversations and communications
via other mechanisms with their members this seems to cover it.
Interestingly have had one occaision where such an item was identified
during a search for material relevant to an internal disciplinary issue,
which caused a refusal to provide that item to the organisation. After some
discussion it was, with difficulty accepted that access would not be given
without a court order. The opinion of a solicitor did assist in the
circumstances appertaining.
I would equally be interested in any policy or other organisations methods
of covering this area.
