I am speaking as a Union official now.
All Unions should have a "facilities agreement" which states what the
Union(s) can use / gain access to in the workplace. This agreement is
normally signed by a senior officer of both sides (union and management).
Ours states that we can have access to University phones and e-mail systems
(amongst other things.) These agreements cannot be changed without consent
from both parties.
I would strongly suggest that you talk to the Branch Secretary of the
Unions involved and your Director of Human Resources just in case you
inadvertently trigger a dispute.
