It depends if you are going to 'examine' them (the tutors learning BSL) if
you are and you want to teach them to stage one level then you need to
register your centre with CACDP (and pay) . It isn't easy. You could just
provide some sign language tuition coupled with Deaf Equality training, this
I did at NTU a few years ago and worked quite successfully, providing a
'taster' for people, many went on to FE colleges to do stage one (where it
is easier so to do). It also means that people are learning the language and
discovering the culture in a more in depth way than stage one can provide,
no point in learning the language without learning about it's people I hope
you agree.
WE are currently investigating the potential of providing BSL as a Language
through our Language Centre, early days for us, but it is where it belongs
as it is a language! (see you all on July 7th?)
City Lit might help?
Hope this helps a bit
Chris

Subject: Re: BSL Tuition
We are looking into the feasibility of providing Sign Language
tuition to staff from next academic year. Our Language Unit say
they don't have the resources to deal with initiating and co-
ordinating the programme at this time.
I wondered if anyone out there has experience of co-ordinating
BSL Stage 1 classes or could recommend at qualified Sign
Language Tutor - what they charge etc etc.
Cheers
Katy
