This is a valid issue - and I have no real solution to it. The same
could be said
of course about Access Centres that are attached to Uni's. I suspect,
also, that
any Ed/Occ psych who disagreed with too many of a Uni's 'positive'
screenings
would receive fewer and fewer referrals.
As someone who does carry out assessments (fewer now than in the past),
I can only
assure others of my integrity. But, then, I can be a shifty blighter
and I
wouldn't necessarily trust me either!
Seriously though, we are particularly conscious of both the 'probity'
and quality
issues and are quite open about our procedures. When we asked our our
local LEA
to accept our in-house assessments, we pointed out that we'd be quite
happy for an
LEA Psychologist to validate what we do. That still stands.
