Kurzweil 1000 will allow the user to open and save Word files. The
application is self contained and typing would need to be achieved within
K1000 for the text to be spoken (it does not read anything outside of the
application). To read anything outside of the application (such as the
Internet) you would still need a screenreader such as JAWS.

I have just done my first VI assessment and I need a little advice.
Zoomtext was ok and the student did not want the screen
reader. Kurzweil seemed good too at reading out the text. Does it
act as a text reader within word like texthelp does or do you type
directly into kurzweil itself? Will student still need Jaws to read
internet stuff?
