Hi,
We will be running our next open-access courses on ‘Understanding the autism spectrum for Careers Professionals’ in March 2015. The courses will take place in London on 4th March 2015 and Manchester 12th March 2015.
There are currently a growing number of graduates with autism (including Asperger syndrome) who are struggling to find employment. Six months after graduation 26% of graduates with autism are unemployed, compared to 8.8% of non-disabled graduates. Many graduates with autism have the skills, knowledge and qualifications required to become excellent employees. With effective support from careers professionals their chances of gaining employment can be greatly increased.
This practical course is aimed at any careers professionals within higher and further education including, placement officers and employer engagement staff.
The course includes an overview of the Autism Spectrum, information on providing an inclusive service for students with autism and suggestions of how to build upon current good practice.
The course will help you to:
• review your current practice in relation to students with autism
• meet legal responsibilities under the Equality Act
• generate ideas to improve your institution’s practice, policy and procedures
• discuss challenges graduates with autism may have in gaining employment and practical strategies to overcome these
