A network computer would fit your requirements - no fan because low power,
and may only have RAM for local storage.
Alternatively, depending on requirements, something like a Psion Organiser
would provide note-taking facilities and be pretty silent.
If the student is >that< sensitive, would they be using a normal
environment or working from a soundproofed facility?

Dear All,
I have just had a query from one of our Computing Officers re: this
condition, which is extreme sensitivity to sound. Does anyone know of any
silent computers - even the sound of the computer's fan whirring is
painful to the student concerned.
Any suggestions would be very welcome!
