On one of their interviews yesterday (I am ashamed at my tender age to
say it might have been Radio 4!!) they specifically said that they did
not charge for the texts to it would only be the customer's own standard
network tariff cost.
However, watch this space as I have used the text service to opt-out and
I will let you know if I get charged more than 10p for the privilege!
Regards,
Clare

The site is www.118800.co.uk and has a contact email address that I have
used. One comment I noted was that when someone texted an opt-out they
were charged at a premium rate. I don't know if this is totally right,
but I am not going to find out by texting!

It's that bit about standard network charges still applying that bothers
me. And I still can't see how the proposed service has been set up
without conflicting with the requirements in the Privacy & Electronic
Communications Regulations (reg 18) which states that the personal data
of an individual subscriber shall not be included in a directory unless
the subscriber has, free of charge, been informed by the collector of
the purposes of the directory; given the opportunity to determine
whether personal data should be included in the directory; and without
charge, be able to verify, correct or withdraw those data at any time.
