Greetings from the Adaptech Research Project Team at Dawson
College, Montreal. Please allow us to update you on our ongoing
activities. 

1. This fall, we formally released our large scale study, Learning
Technologies: Students with Disabilities in Postsecondary
Education. In the short-term, the full
text of the report and the appendix were put up on the web in PDF,
with hard copies being made available at cost soon there after. We
are now pleased to make the entire report and appendix available in
MS Word on diskette or via e-mail for free. Please contact Jennison

2. Using the data from this study, we have undertaken an exciting
five-teer dissemination plan to reach our intended audiences
featuring: 1) a handy booklet (to be available in alternate
formats) listing what computer and adaptive technologies students
with various disabilities found helpful and useful to them
(including brand names of products, and where in Canada these
products might be purchased); 2) a position paper directed at the
Canadian Federal Government using recommendations from our data; 3)
our Manufacturer's Project, which will be a focused attempt to
reach mainstream and adaptive technology manufacturers and
distributors, providing them with recommendations that come
directly from the students themselves; 4) a series of targeted
academic and professional journal articles directed at professors
and instructional technologists working in higher education; and 5)
two journal articles for professionals providing services to
students with disabilities. 

3. We continue with year two of our Quebec-Based study,
Informatique et technologies adaptées dans les cégeps, which is a
specialized study looking at the realities of: students with
disabilities, professors who teach them, and personnel who provide
services to students with disabilities as they regard computer and
adaptive technologies in our predominately Francophone community
college milieu. This study wraps up in June. 

4. Finally, on November 25, the Office of Learning Technologies (a
branch of Human Resources Development Canada), awarded us with a
two year grant for a new study called DSSFocus. In short, we want
to do research to determine what could make the lives of personnel
who provide service to students with disabilities easier as they
increasingly deliver computer and adaptive technology-based
accommodations. We are currently seeking interested individuals to
serve on this project's Advisory
