Does inclusion in the brochure at the awards ceremony count as
"publication"? The brochure is only issued (free of charge) at the
ceremony, and only to guests and graduates. I.E. it's not available to
"the public".
My guess is that it does indeed count as "publication".
Would it make any difference if we charged for the brochure (as some
institutions do)?
If we let students opt out of that too, how can it serve as an official
record of which degrees were conferred?
Does reading out their name during the ceremony also count as
"publication"? Presumably it would if you stood in the market place and
shouted "F.Bloggs got a pass degree in Chicken Trussing", so perhaps it
counts in the ceremony too?
It'd be a very strange ceremony if the students had the right not to
appear in the brochure for the ceremony, and not to have their name read
out, but yet go up and get their certificate from the Chancellor.
But then, life *is* strange isn't it.
If it wasn't, we wouldn't need half the legislation we've got.
Or half the bureaucrats - and I'd be out of a job :-)
