Here is a Q from a clleague that has come to me being the DPO at Dundee.
>I had a phone call from a students father requesting that any
>correspondence regarding the payment of residence fees (and possibly
>tuition fee payment, as the father is just applying now for the fees
>to be paid by SAAS) should be sent to him at a different address to
>his son as the parents have separated. He has asked for a letter
>from us stating that he has requested this (he needs it for legal
>purposes) and that we have done so. Mr XXXXXXXX said he would write
>it requesting this to be done, if we needed it in writing.
>
>The next of kin address on SRS is that of the mother, which is also
>the students home address.
>
>The father has given his address.
We feel our contract is with the student and the student is liable for fees
or residences costs etc. In thory we should not give any details to the
father (right/wrong?)
Thus, should we correspond with the student and ask him/her to pass any
necessary letters to the father? If the student and the father (or mother
and father) are not communicating then, that is their problem?
Any advice welcome.
Regards
Charles
