You may already be aware of this but most drawing packages include some
means of tracking the cursor, either using grid referencing,
sidebar/ruler markers or both. MS Publisher features markers on the
vertical and horizontal rulers (Perhaps your student has seen something
similar). These track the cursor, however, not the insetion point.
Furthermore, they're not particularly visible and they seem to be
unaffected by any Windows display enhancements.
