I just had to chip back in to say that I genuinely believe that a commitment to gaining necessary expertise in whatever form would be seen by employers as desirable and that most of the options discussed here are as adequate as each other.

Tim is right in what he says. However, rightly or wrongly many companies see the CIPP/E or CIPM certifications as desirable. They have the advantage of being internationally recognised but the potential downside is that it's part of the IAPP and as an organisation that makes money, you might argue that there is bias there is making sure you renew/keep up.
I have the CIPP/E and it has made a difference to organisations looking for someone like me that I have this.
Like I say you could argue either way and a standard would be lovely. However, in the absence of that and if you want something more profession based than academia based, then I’d go with the CIPP/E or CIPM...
Simon.

Subject: [data-protection] GDPR Practitioner Certificate
Dear All.
Apologies as I know I’ve asked this before.
Have any of you undertaken the GDPR Practitioner Certificate and if so who did you go with and would you recommend?
I work in a further education college.
Thanks.
