Have you been asked for anything like this specifically? I wouldn’t include this kind of information in its standard searches, and haven't seen anywhere that does (although I've never worked for an ISP)

If someone asked for 'all information held about me' and you list in your acknowledgement the systems/records that you'll search then I would expect them to come back to you to tell you if they wanted firewall logs, for instance.

If a staff member asked for 'a list of all the websites I've visited' then I'd cross that bridge when we got to it.

Dan

I’m sensing that my question may have been met with a long, straight road, interspersed with occasional tumbleweed whilst the sound of a lonesome bell tolling in the distance is carried on the wind.

Subject: [data-protection] SARs and Firewall logs

Good morning,

I would very much appreciate the group’s views on data held within firewall logs, and other similar system/security based logs. For such logs to be useful for the purposes of Information Security, and dealing with technical matters, they will naturally contain some identifying information, such as IP addresses, etc. Typically these logs are not that readable, and for logs of Internet traffic especially, they can be extensive, and include other information that would probably need to be redacted.

How are members of the group dealing with such logs when it comes to responding to SARs? If you are providing such information, how are you satisfying the requirement of making it understandable by the average person?

Many thanks

Richard
