Hoping someone can help with this: are students with dyslexia / sight impairment / other able to record classes and practice sessions at your institution? If not, what adjustments are put in place to assist with note-taking?
We have a student with severe dyslexia whose Needs Assessment I have just received. It states: "XXX has difficulties with the following and requires support that cannot be funded through DSA:
• Making notes during taught sessions.
• Making notes during Counselling Observations
XXX should discuss these difficulties with their HEP disability advisor" (i.e. me!)
and
"Given the nature of the information being discussed in these sessions it is not possible to make audio recordings of these sessions".
How would colleagues deal with this? Obviously I understand the potential confidentiality issues but I would have thought these would be relatively rare and that agreement could be sought on a session-by-session basis rather than making such a blanket statement.
