This is interesting as I remember having the same discussions with DfE (or similar incarnation) around 15 years ago when I was with RNIB Post 16 Education. There were not enough Blind or VI students in the system to meet the requirements of an "assessor". We got round it in Bristol by working with AbilityNet and I seem to recall RNIB Vocational College in Loughborough somehow getting a "special" accreditation.
If anyone would like to look at being an Associate with the Virtual School Sensory Support as a way to resolve this issue, give me a call using the details below.
Best wishes to all

We are having the same problem. We have a student who has been without this support since October 16. I have raised it with DSA-QAG several times and the only answer I get is "we are in discussions with DfE about this". Not helpful and doesn't seem to be progressing any further.
Best wishes

Subject: Specialist Support Professional (Vision Impairment) Problems
Hi all
I'm struggling to find a QAG-registered SSP for a DSA-funded blind student in East London using the QAG database. Nobody seems to have one available.
I do have concerns that the qualification criteria set by QAG for SSP VI isn't really appropriate for HE (seems more relevant for a peripatetic teacher at a school level) so might be resulting in people who could offer this support and have already not being able to register.
Can anyone suggest someone? Are others having a similar problem?
Best wishes
Ian Francis
