Why would public money be involved at all? Not a police matter?

Agree with Kevin. Plus, in practical terms you parked illegally and it saves public money if the owner of the right of way can sort this directly, I would suggest that it seems fair and proportionate and that if you wish to make sure your address is not supplied to strangers that you park legally! ;)
Simon.

Are the police allowed to give addresses of registered keepers over the phone. I had parked across a gate (which of course I shouldn't have), then I got a knock on my door asking me to move it. Not a problem, but the woman claimed she had got my address (not my name, as if that makes much difference) from the police. Given that I wasn't committing any criminal offence AFAIK (parked on public highway), surely this is a breach of data protection law?
