Hi Naomi
Has the student had an interview at their prospective College and been offered a place? Have the student and family spoken to the SEN person at College with regards to their specific needs?
In our case we ask for early application and disclosure of what the Sen needs are and what support is required. We then work with the relevant LA to discuss funding for that student. Things have changed over the last year with the introduction of EHCPs and if the student is transitioning from a statement to EHCPlan then there will be a review meeting and whoever is writing the EHCP within the LA will outline the support to be put in place to allow the student to transition to the new setting.

Hello John, is the funding and support being s orted in advance of the first day of college where you are. This particular borough is expecting the sen student to start in FE and then they want to work out what they think he needs. Can't think why they want to set up a student to fail. So that is one of the reasons I have sent out the mail for info.

In Norfolk, we have a Panel who look at applications and there will be a list of evidence provided. Usually it is a Statement, LDA and other stuff from the future provider outlining what they think is required and what they can offer.

Is there anyone there who can help myself and a family understand the funding for a child with a statement/soon to become EHCP. They will transition this summer and the child will need everything in place ready.
Further what is law and what is custom and practice.................
We understand that there is either High or low needs in post 16 provision which is then further broken down into elements1/2/ 3 - 3 being the high needs ? This is further categorized into bands 1-4 for learning difficulty - from slight to severe - and then the support hours are given.
Who decides this and what is the essential paperwork which needs to be given to college to support etc.
Seems to be difficult to make this a seamless transition
