Dear Rebecca,
This is our policy at Sheffield: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/lets/pp/support/lectrecord
I know that there has been research that shows attendance is not affected, but I don't have specific information.
Our policy was introduced a year ago and the main issue has been for academic departments finding ways of providing written summaries for seminars when recording is not permitted. I think this is something that departments will need to resolve individually as they have different requirements etc.
Best wishes,
Bryan

Subject: Audio Recordings and Lecture Attendance
Dear Colleagues,
I am currently writing some frequently asked questions to accompany our new accessible and inclusive learning policy which amongst other things, permits all students to audio record tutor-led lecture sessions. A commonly raised concern is that access to recordings will mean that fewer students attend live lectures. It would be really helpful to hear from other institutions who have similar policies in place and can share their experience of this.
Many thanks,
Rebecca
