Hi Katy,
Just had a look on the iPlayer website and the programme is not currently available on the iplayer, although Weds and Thurs episodes are. So I'm wondering if there are perhaps legal issues with the episode - maybe they were discussing historic abuse cases for example? In any case it looks like we will be relying on the list to advise as the time the programme would have been available will be up in 2 days. (I missed Friday's episode as I was stuck in a 2 hour traffic jam thanks to a closure of the M62!)
I'm wondering whether the reference was to the 30 year rule from the National Archives? The only other thing which might be relevant is consideration as to whether the DPA still applies to any of the individuals listed e.g. are they still living? But this isn't exactly new legislation!
Sorry I can't help any further!
Best wishes,
Michelle

Subject: [data-protection] New SAR legislation - 30 year redaction rule?
Just had a very interesting phone call from someone who wants to have a copy of their social services file without any redactions being made, as per the new legislation that was discussed on The One Show last Friday, which apparently said that if the file is over 30 years old you are not supposed to redact third party information, and the Subject is entitles to their complete, unredacted file!
I phoned the ICO who is not aware of any changes to legislation, but they are going to look into it and get back to me.
Did anyone catch the show/know about this new legislation? Unfortunately I can't access BBC IPlayer at work but would like to know what they were discussing.
Many thanks,
Katy Holman
