Whilst I can understand that in relation to patients contacting the
practice, I'm not sure that the same would hold true about the reverse -
principle 7 still applies to the data controller. You might also argue
principle 7 in relation to the practice's willingness to receive emails
from patients.

There is case law that ruled provided you inform individuals of the
risks associated with methods of communication and provided they accept
these then your covered and not liable. For the life of me, I cannot
locate the ruling but it concerned a council -v- an individual who was
blind. If I find it I will post the link.
