There is some good stuff in the article but it is unfortunate that she does not recognise the possibility of a compatible further use of personal data. She says
"Firstly, the data protection principle requires local authorities to ensure that personal data is not kept for longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, i.e. data must be destroyed when no longer needed."
However, the legislation allows retention for further compatible purposes, e.g. research (see DPA s33(3)) and as an archivist I would have liked to see that mentioned.
