Understanding the Autism Spectrum (including Asperger Syndrome)
Do you work with a student with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)? Do you want to ensure you are communicating effectively with them? Do you want to equip them with independent learning skills? Do you want to employ effective working strategies in your day-to-day role?
The National Autistic Society can provide specialist tailored training to provide awareness of the Autism Spectrum, practical strategies and promote a positive understanding of how you can effectively enable students with ASD to reach their academic potential.
Target Group:
For all academic and support staff (e.g. Disability Officers, Tutors, Lecturers, Library and I.T services staff)
Course content:
• What are ASDs
• Challenges faced by students with an ASD
• Exploring range of abilities found within ASD
Effective working strategies include:
• Communication and how to provide feedback
• Dealing with anxiety
• Providing structure
• Suggestions of reasonable adjustments according to Equality Act 2010
• How to create an inclusive learning environment
