Hi All
This seems to be a hot topic at the moment and we at Edge Hill were thinking of hosting a day/ afternoon to discuss/share experience around transition issues and events, particularly in relation to those with complex requirements.
If any would be interested in attending you can phone me off list on 01695 584758
Regards
Dan

We run induction sessions for all students with disabilities and support
needs and felt that we should offer something to students with ASD, but
the differences between them meant that we couldn't find any more common
ground than that included in the induction so we went back to that. We
review it each year looking at the needs of the particular intake.
We have teams from the local learning support agency, our in-house
support, library services, students union and past students. We
introduce everyone then invite students to come and talk to us if they
want to at the end or come and see us in the office. I have to day I
really love those days. It is a great way to get good 1-1 relationships
built up.
That isn't to say that everyone always benefits.
I'd be interested to see others' approach too. Chris

If people reply to this, could they make sure they reply to the list as
well as Claire, as I'd also be interested in other HEIs take on this.
Thanks,
Simon

Hi everyone,
I am planning a pre-orientation event for new students disclosing
Asperger's Syndrome. I am planning to include information on the
disability service, accommodation, familiarisation with the city centre
and also the university campus/library.
I was just wondering if other universities did something similar and if
anyone had any suggestions about what
other things I could include. In particular any activities for
accompaning parents!
