Hello,
We are in the process of reviewing some of our support worker roles and in particular that of our Academic Support Mentors (previously Study Support Worker).
Our Academic Support Mentors currently work with students with a range of disabilities to enable them to organise, manage and prioritise their workload. Where relevant, they may also provide some academic guidance to verify learning. They are often Postgraduate students with experience of studying a similar subject and with some teaching experience.
The role has developed in response to student needs, but we are keen to ensure the boundaries are clear and that Mentors are not subtituting support available within the departments.
It would be really helpful to know if other Universities provide support workers in a role similiar to our Academic Support Mentor and if so, what is their job title and job description?
Thankyou!
Suzanne Russell
(Support Worker Co-ordinator)
