Dear Patricia,
Students on such courses are sometimes self-employed and working towards additional training for their area of work. Hence, they may be eligible for funded assistance under the Access to Work scheme.
Kind regards,
PG

Subject: Funding for disbaled students on a non Hefce course
Dear All,
I am looking for advice.
A visually impaired student has been accepted on a course - Diploma of Higher Education which is validated by us but outsourced to another provider. He has been refused DSA as it is a privately run course not funded by HEFCE.
Has anybody any experience in how disabled students are supported in these situations? We are keen to facilitate any reasonable adjustments that are required and would appreciate knowing what other HEIs do in these circumstances. The delivery of the course is not really the main concern as suitable adjustments will be made: it is more the funding stream and who is responsible - the validating body or the course provider or both?
Thanks in advance.
Pat
