The Society of Archivists Records Management Group (RMG) training event,
"Compliance…am I bovvered?", will be held at the St Bride Foundation, Fleet
Street, London on Monday 16th November 2009.
How concerned is your organisation about information legislation and the
consequences of falling foul of the Freedom of Information and Data
Protection Acts?
This year's RMG training event explores such issues surrounding compliance
and to what extent legal compliance is an effective driver for records
management. The line up of speakers includes Richard Blake, Head of TNA's
Records Management Advisory Service who will give the insider's view of how
the TNA assesses compliance with the records management code of practice
under section 46 of FOIA. Also speaking is Joanne Stones, Enforcement
Officer within the Information Commissioner’s Office who will be giving a
presentation entitled The Section 46 Code: the risks of non-compliance.
Covering how ICO Practice Recommendations demonstrate the importance of good
records management for compliance with FOIA.
The afternoon will be rounded up with Ann Jones, FOI and DP Officer at
Heriot-Watt University discussing how records management supports
information compliance. The sessions will highlight the relevance of
compliance from the records practitioner's perspective. There will also be
time during the day for discussion and to share experiences with fellow
professionals. The fee for the training event, including a sandwich lunch,
is £80 for members and £100 for non-members. Registration is from 10am with
a closing time of 3.30pm. Please contact the Society of Archivists office
(http://www.archives.org.uk/training.html) to book a place.
The Records Management Group’s AGM will be held at 12.25pm and all members
of the RMG are invited to attend. Please note attendance to the AGM is free
of charge but members will have to pay for a place on the training event.
