I've been supporting a student studying in Denmark over the past
academic year and successfully argued that the additional costs
associated with transporting his equipment to and from Copenhagen were
necessitated by his disability (dyslexia, in this case) and the LA duly
agreed to pay them. They even agreed to pay taxi costs to and from the
airport, which again were necessitated by the sheer volume of stuff he
had to transfer. The student paid for these and submitted receipts as
they would in the UK.
My advice would be to speak to someone in the LA first to make them
aware of the issues. Assuming the student has had a needs assessment you
may well need to get the assessor to write to them.
Where things got slightly more controversial with 'my' student was where
he wanted to bring everything to and fro each holiday period, although
if we're talking about ergonomic equipment used when studying this
should be less contentious.
Hope this helps...
