I have worked with a student in the past who had this condition and we were
able to offer the DSA to them through their local LA at the time – it
appears LSE also feel this is a condition that warrants support from the
allowance

about the thought of not being able to support this student in the way you
describe.

Subject: Student with myasthenia gravis
Hello all,
One of our students has myasthenia gravis and has been denied DSA. Does
anyone know of any students with the condition who are in receipt of DSA or
if they have had problems getting it?
Here is a little more info on the condition:
The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during
periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Certain muscles such
as those that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, chewing,
talking, and swallowing are often, but not always, involved in the disorder
(http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/myasthenia_gravis/detail_myasthenia_grav
is.htm)
The student in question has problems with her eyes and when she reads too
much she gets double vision, fatigued and has to rest to get better – often
resulting in missing classes and not being able to study. We feel that she
would benefit from some software that reads out materials for her, to help
rest her eyes
If you have any comments please reply to me directly
