Hello, I would imagine, even though it would make sense, we're not
allowed to share electronic files we have received from publishers.
When you request and receive them, as I said previously, they often make
you sign something to say 'no one else but the student who the material
is meant for will use the books and they will be destroyed upon
graduation'.

What reason did the publishers give for not giving you the books in
electronic format. I am not 100% familiar with publishing laws and so
on, but if the book is for a disabled person then surely they're in
breach of the DDA etc ...........

Hi Gary
I am in a similar position myself as I have 2 GCSE Psycholgy books I'm
awaiting in PDF format from the publisher.
You didn't mention the software that this student is using, but if she
is reliant on the speech element I'm afraid you will still have problems
as screen reading software doesn't work great with PDF files and will
need to be reformatted to word.
We use Omnipage software which quickly convert PDF to Word, although you
then need to reformat headings etc for screen readers to navigate
efficiently. If you have Easy Producer software you can quickly convert
to an audio file so that the learner can also use a Daisy format and
listen to the book on a Daisy Player (like an MP3 player).

I thought this may be helpful.
Kind regards
Lynne

	Hello

Even though I have been signed up for about a year this is my
maiden e-mail to this forum as I need help!

I wonder has anyone a PDF copy of the following books for a
Psychology student with a visual impairment. After a request the
publisher was unable to supply these in a PDF format which would allow
the student to have them read to her by the software on her computer.
Any thoughts on the publishers stance regarding this issue would also be
appreciated.

	The books are

Hepper, P et al, (eds.), Psychology, Pearson, 2007

Martin, N, Carlson, N, and Buskist, W, Psychology, 3rd Edition,
Allyn and Bacon, 2005

	Many thanks
	Gary McGladdery
