Don't see any reason why that can't also be done using a laptop and a
graphics tablet - some (all?) tablets require the stylus to be used in
order to provide input, so the additional hand movement on the tablet
won't create any smudging. Arguably there is pedagogical advantage
here, as the hand-written letter will then be translated into the
printed letter, and so associating the two.
