I had my wallet stolen a few months ago. A very helpful and kind
employee of a bus company found it stuffed down the back of a seat on
the top deck of a bus. He had assumed I had lost it, and made an
effort - for no reward - to track me down. He called a club of which I
am a member (card in wallet) and the club (good DP practices) did not
(quite rightly) give him my details, but called me with his. I got my
wallet back.
He said, if he had just - as he was supposed to - given it to lost
property, I would never have seen it again!
Faith in human nature restored ....

Quite right Jethro, there is definately a case for actually doing the
job right yourself.

I know the utter palaver of trying to find out what might have
happened to them on the assumption that the train conductor/cleaner
discovered the items, which station they were taken off the train at,
and the tortuous route they take back to the central lost property
office, if they even get that far. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.)
