It is indeed up to us to "choose the level of protection we require and to act within it". I am careful to preserve my identity and shred diligently etc. However over the Christmas break I received a bank statement in the post from my bank - The Halifax - that was open, completely unsealed, the envelope flap virtually waving in the breeze, obviously not a lick had passed the banks lips...I was not a little concerned about this, but when I went into my branch to complain the assistant more or less shrugged her shoulders and said she would "Make a note of it". Surely at this basic level my bank should be protecting me?

Well said, you can have as much technology as you like, but in the end it's down to people taking responsibility
(both personal and corporate).
I agree with your observations about the transfer of personally identifiable information in the way mentioned (or
indeed the lack of); there has to be a middle ground of common sense that says, "yes our analytical software will
grab your footprint when you arrive on the page, but you may switch it off by taking this action..."
I think that there is a danger hre, to get side tracked by this type of activity whilst the geeks are busy reading
your c: drive....
Finally-
I am a little concerned at the Chihuahua Liberation Front though, just looking at those makes me feel suicidal! I'm
a Whippet men myself. ;-)
