Dear All
I have a level 1 student who has social and communication difficulties.
Part of their programme is to study abroad for a year (Somewhere where
either French or Spanish is spoken). This student experiences great
difficulty with independent travel alongside other difficulties. The
family are quite concerned about the year abroad. The University are
willing to look at an alternative to this. The student is keen to go
abroad and study.
My questions are as follows:
1. How do your institutions manage this?
2. Is the Academic department responsible for carrying out a risk
assessmnet?
3. What role does the Disability Team play in this?
The student currently has 2 hours per week study mentor, and 16 hours
study buddy.
Strategies so Far:
1. Work on independent travel from now until year 3
2. Ask for further guidance from Neuropsychologist with regard to this.
3. Ask for a class mate to take on the role of study buddy and be paid
whilst overseas.
I am looking for good practice in the field.
Thanks in advance.
Heather
