Prof John Gardner will be attending the TechShare conference 4/5th Oct
http://www.rnib.org.uk/xpedio/groups/public/documents/code/public_rnib004057
.hcsp. He is an expert on the subject
http://physicsold.science.oregonstate.edu/PhysicsWeb_2001/People/Faculty/Pag
es_Faculty/gardner.html and has developed some tactile scanning equipment
and works with JAWS
http://www.rehab.research.va.gov/jour/06/43/4/pdf/gardner.pdf. I am sure he
will not mind talking through some ideas - he will be in the UK for the week
after the conference, so I have taken this opportunity to copy him into this
note, as it is possible you could meet up to discuss tactics and perhaps set
up a workshop for those supporting the student or anyone else who is
interested.
Prof Gardner has mentioned that he is keen to work with any groups
interested in the use of the ViewPlus equipment http://www.viewplus.com/
whilst over in UK. He will be here until 13th October. If anyone is
interested in this offer please e-mail [log in to unmask]
Here are some links I have found on the subject in the past - hope they help

Subject: Blind student doing Physics
We are going to have a blind student do a physics / astrology type course.
The student has been blind for 3 years and although he is proficient with
using JAWS he doesn't use braille and hasn't used tactile diagrams in the
past. My main concern is supporting him with the mathematic equations and
formulae and graphs and charts. Would anyone be able to provide any
practical help in our student understanding and dealing with this within his
course?
Many thanks
Jane
